We had the pleasure of producing Justin Neil,a fresh new talent from a small town in Texas!  His unique style of writing reminded me of The Eagles meet Johnny Cash.  Read more about this awesome artist and see why we are big fans!  Check out his music on all the streaming outlets!

Where are you from and how long have you been singing?

I’m initially from Caldwell, TX. I’m currently living in Austin, TX and have been for the past 7 years.

Who are your musical influences?

Mozart, Bach, Yiruma, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Queen, 3 Doors Down, Red Jumspsuit Apparatus, Avenge Sevenfold, Asking Alexandria, Fall Out Boy, Johnny Cash, George Strait, Aaron Watson, Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Garth Brooks, Kyle Park, All American Rejects, White Tie Affair, Blink 182, Forever The Sickest Kids, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and the list goes on.

Do you write and how do you get inspired?

I do write. Usually inspiration will hit when I’m on a long drive in the truck (3-4 hours), if I seclude myself in my room and write what comes to mind and what I’m feeling in that given moment, and most importantly life’s events that seem to continually unravel before me.

Tell us about your experience with working with Off The Row?

I had an amazing time. I was extremely appreciative of the amount of creativity and patience that was displayed amongst the whole team. I have always heard horror stories from other artists about working with studios, and to be honestly experience was the complete opposite. I absolutely loved working with Off The Row Studio and they exceeded every expectation that I had. It was nice to feel a hint of home in an unfamiliar place.

How is the pandemic affecting music for you?

I haven’t been able to schedule any gigs for quite some time. However, I have been able to play at small get togethers such as songwriter circles, which are always a blast to meet other like minded writers and musicians.

What is your favorite song you didn’t write and why?

“If We Were Vampires” by Jason Isbell. The reason why is because he twists this sad phenomenon the majority of people do not like talking about into a love story. If we were vampires, then there wouldn’t be any need to live in the moment and enjoy the little time we have in this world. I definitely believe he paints a picture of mortality, but sheds a different light on the subject. Mortatility is a gift meant to be enjoyed and appreciated in every moment, including the good and the bad.

What are your musical plans for 2021?

My plans are to definitely book more gigs, write more, hone my craft, and possibly record a couple more songs.

How would you describe your sound?

I guess I would describe it as country mixed with a little pop and rock added in the mix. Maybe a little bit of a 90s vibe as well.

What is your favorite quote that describes how you view life?

“Own Your Shit” - Gary Vaynerchuk

This quote to me speaks about accountability and responsibility. 90% of people run away from it, and choose to blame others for their own shortcomings and failures. To me, an idividual’s word should be followed up by their actions, if we don’t hold ourselves, more or less others accountable or responsible for their actions, then it leads to mistrust. From there it only spirals further down generating a domino effect of disaster.

Any exciting news musically or personal?

I’m currently in the process of releasing two more singles this year. Personally, I just found out that I will be an uncle soon, so that’s pretty exciting.
