Where are you from and how long have you been singing?

I am from Lafayette, Tennessee, which is about an hour northeast of Nashville. I lived here until I graduated high school, and then I moved to Chattanooga for college for a couple years. I transferred and now I’m in Bowling Green, Kentucky finishing up school. I have been singing for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t start playing guitar until I was 18. I loved playing, and within the last year started writing my own music.

Who are your musical influences?

My strongest musical influences would most likely be Eric Church, Cody Jinks, and my uncle, Mark Liberato. Eric and Cody both greatly influenced my style and the types of songs I try to write. Mark is a huge influence because without him, there’s a chance I wouldn’t be playing guitar or writing songs today. He married my aunt and when they came from Texas to visit us one year, he played guitar and performed some of his original songs. Seeing him do this in person inspired me to get a guitar and learn, and I was playing my first song three months later.

Do you write and how do you get inspired?

I try to write songs all the time. Since I started, it is quickly becoming my favorite thing to do when I have some free time. Most of my inspiration comes from reflecting back on past feelings or experiences I have had and just remembering those feelings and talking about them. Other times I will just randomly have a few words pop into my head that I feel like I could write a song about, so I just see if I can work something out. I write best at night, I feel like it helps me relax after stressful days.

Tell us about your experience working with Off The Row in the Studio?

My experience at off the row was fantastic! From the moment I stepped out of my truck, I felt right at home with everyone there. It was an amazing experience, and my songs could not have turned out more perfect. I felt so comfortable recording my songs, and I was able to still make sure everything sounded like what I was wanting, while still getting great pointers from Houston and the band. I am so thankful for Off The Row and all they have done for me.

How is the pandemic affecting music for you?

The pandemic has actually been a great help when it comes to my music. I have still had a job, thankfully, since the very start of the pandemic, so I wasn’t entirely shut in, but I did still have a lot of extra free time. With that I have written more songs than I ever imagined, and I have been able to practice a lot of different things to become a better musician. I have also had time to reach out and start getting some live gigs now that everything is starting to open up again.

What is your favorite song you didn’t write and why?

My favorite song of all time is “Somewhere in the Middle” by Cody Jinks. I’ve loved this song since the very first time I heard it. Something about the lyrics in this song just really hit home with me, and I try everyday to keep the meaning of this song in the back of my mind.

How would you describe your sound?

I often get compared to Eric Church more than anyone else, which I take as a great compliment. I don’t really think that musically our styles are that similar, but I think it’s normally the voice that most people think sound so much alike. I think my sound can best be described as traditional country. I try to stay away from “pop country” and that kind of sound, and just stick to an original country sound.

What is your favorite quote that describes how you view life?

“Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.”

This is a quote from my favorite poem, that some people have titled “Live Your Life” written by the Native American Chief Tecumseh. If I could have put the entire poem, I would, but this is probably my favorite quote or excerpt from the poem. I try to keep the values mentioned in this poem prevalent in the way I live daily.

Any exciting news musically or personal?

I have recently played my first couple live shows, and have more coming soon, and hopefully can keep them coming!!

What are your musical plans for 2021?

I hope to continue writing as much as I can for 2021, and keep my songbook growing. The thing I hope to accomplish most though is to start playing more live shows. I have played a couple, but I hope to really get out there and start playing publicly a lot next year.
